This privacy policy pertains to the use of the The First Time Project web site at http://www.thefirsttimeproject.com (also referred to as the Site).
 
This privacy policy covers how The First Time Project treats personal information that The First Time Project collects and receives. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, email address, and birth date. Children under 13 are not permitted to use or register as a member for The First Time Project, and so this privacy policy makes no provision for children's use of the Site.

The First Time Project collects personal information when you register with The First Time Project to use post content or use services of the Site. When you register we ask for your email address, birth date, and a pen name to sign your stories with. This pen name does is not required to reflect your actual name. The First Time Project automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, cookie, and the page you request. The First Time Project uses information for the following general purposes: identification and authentication, contact, research, and personalized content delivery.

IP Addresses

IP Addresses are automatically reported by your browser each time you view a web page. Your IP address is stored in our user registration databases when you visit The First Time Project. IP addresses may be used for various purposes, including: To diagnose or service technology problems reported by our users or engineers that are associated with the IP addresses controlled by a specific web company or ISP. To estimate the total number of users visiting The First Time Project from specific geographical regions. To make sure that people are not boosting their story and profile statistics.

Cookies

A cookie is a piece of data stored on a user's computer tied to information about the user. The First Time Project uses both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie terminates. A persistent cookie is a text file stored on a user's hard drive for an extended period of time. Also, users may optionally use a cookie to remember their password in order to automatically log-in to the Site. We do not use cookies to collect private information that a user did not intentionally submit to us.

When you author a story, post a comment, or subscribe to content, your pen name that you are posting under is visible to others. If you post personal information online that is accessible to the public, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return. The First Time Project does not rent or sell your personal information. It may be necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities, including without limitation, fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of The First Time Project's Terms of Use, or as otherwise permitted or required by law. We will transfer information about you if The First Time Project is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, The First Time Project will notify you by email or by putting a prominent notice on the Site before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Editing and Deleting Account Information

You can change your account information at any time. You can delete your account at any time from your You page. Account deletion results in complete removal of pen name, stories, comments, favorites, subscriptions, and messages related to your account. Your account information is password protected.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

The First Time Project may update this policy at any time for any reason. If there are any significant changes to how we handle personal information we will send a notice to the email address specified in your account or by placing a prominent notice on the Site.
